Hot off the Press: MCP is currently in discussions with a retailer that reports losses of £10,000 a day in lost sales if a lift or escalator is out of service.
Their estate is around 25 years old and there has been minimal investment in lifts and escalators in this time.
As the cost of remote wireless sensors and gateways has reduced significantly in recent years, retrofitting monitoring systems to critical assets is now an attractive option. We can monitor on-off, light, temperature, humidity, vibration, flood, power consumption, count and motion.
It is early days but we plan to run a condition monitoring pilot study on the lifts and escalators to gather baseline data. Subsequently, we will link alerts to email and text messages when readings exceed certain parameters.
